100 days
Until we get this done
Folks,
Today marks 100 days until the general election.
We could spend all day talking about what we’ve got to do between now and November 3rd. Trust me, I’ve been having just about a thousand meetings about it over the past few weeks. We can talk about the town halls we need to host, the calls we need to make, the letters we need to mail, the doors we need to knock, the ads we need to run.
But instead, I’d like to talk about what happens on November 4th, when we win this election.
For the first time in twenty years, Alabamians will wake up knowing they have a governor who actually works for them. They will know they can call the governor’s office with a problem and someone will actually respond to their concerns.
Our nurses and our doctors will wake up without fear that their governor will cut Medicaid.
Our teachers will wake up knowing they finally have someone in Montgomery fighting for better pay, stronger schools, and the freedom to teach.
Our parents will wake up knowing they’ve got a governor who will fight to abolish the grocery tax and make it a little easier to put food on the table.
Every Alabamian will wake up knowing their governor will defend their right to vote, not gerrymander away their voice. They will—thank God—know their governor actually lives in Alabama. They’ll know they have a governor who sees public service as a sacred responsibility to the people of this state, not some kind of get-rich-quick scheme or a football game.
In 101 days, we can all breathe a little easier. But until then, we have to earn it.
