Worst birthday present ever
…but it’s a hell of an opportunity
Folks,
It’s my birthday.
But something far more important than that is happening today.
Today, lawmakers are meeting in a special session to redraw Alabama’s maps.
The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act just 4 days ago, and the one-party rule in Montgomery is rushing as fast as they can to suppress Alabama voters. It is a revealing moment that shows Montgomery’s true priorities right now.
They could call a special session to address skyrocketing utility bills, health care costs, or grocery costs. But we never see them act with this kind of urgency to address our concerns.
Instead, they are rushing at lightning speed—and spending $400,000 of taxpayer money—to entrench their own power even deeper.
They want to wipe out the two seats represented by Black Democrats and tighten Republican control over the State Senate.
Let’s be clear about what’s happening here: People are being silenced.
The power brokers in Montgomery believe they can rewrite the rules however they like. They want to decide the outcomes of our elections before a single vote is cast.
But here’s the thing. They only want to silence us because they know they can’t win if everyone’s voice is heard.
That’s why this moment is a hell of an opportunity.
This November, we can free Montgomery from one-party rule and put the power back in the hands of the people. But we need a campaign big enough to reach every corner of this state. So I’m counting on you to be a part of this.
Can you chip in today to help us build a movement strong enough to win?
Thank you,
Doug
